The soundscape, as a construction of identity and civilizational process, has been attributed affective, aesthetic and patrimonial values. The Soundscapes Conference is dedicated to reflecting on the current meaning of the interaction between human beings, nature and music over time in the construction of cultural and historical soundscapes. In 1973, the International Congress of Studies in Honor of André Soares was held in Braga, “Art in Portugal in the 18th century”, promoted by the Braga City Council. Robert C. Smith chaired this extraordinary congress, organized in three sections: Fine Arts, Literature and Music. Gerhard Doderer, Manuel Faria, Cónego José Augusto Alegria, Cândido Lima, Samuel Rubio Calzon, among other musicians and researchers, participated in its III Section, chaired by musicologist Macário Santiago Kastner. After more than forty years and within the scope of the centenary celebrations of André Soares (1720-1769), the II INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON soudscape: THE SOUND, MUSIC AND ARCHITECTURE IN THE COMMEMORATIONS OF ANDRÉ SOARES (1720-1769).
Knowing that the relations between music and architecture have existed since antiquity and remain in modern times, this conference convenes several areas of study and aims to promote a space for reflection and debate between musicologists, architects, art historians, mathematicians, acoustic engineers and other researchers , showing in-depth interdisciplinary research and reflection around soundscapes.
